Visit Nason’s Brook

Most of the 2.8 mile-long Nasons Brook flows through highly developed industrial parks but you can access the end of the brook before it joins the Fore River at the Fore River Sanctuary. At the convergence between Nasons and the Fore River you can find the only natural waterfall in Portland, Jewell Falls! The Sanctuary has various trailheads including one at the end of Rowe Avenue, another at the end of Starbird Lane, and the other on Congress Street at the end of Stroudwater Trail! The Sanctuary provides excellent opportunities for the avid birder with lowland marshy areas being a mainstay of this sanctuary. Beyond the unique scenery, the Fore River Sanctuary is also one of the few green spaces throughout the city that allows dogs to be off leash! But please make sure to pick up your pet waste for all to enjoy the same experience as you!
