Visit Fall Brook

Although a long stream for Portland’s standards, Fall Brook’s natural beauty is hidden away, as much of the brook is located on private property and in highly developed regions of the city. There are still a few spots to see this stream along its route from the Lyman Moore Middle School all the way down to Back Cove.

Beginning on the west end of Lyman Moore Middle School, you can easily access the brook via the Pine Grove/Lyseth & Lyman Moore School Trails at the corner of Auburn Street and Lyseth Moore Drive. The Brook then follows a narrowly vegetated corridor behind the Northgate Plaza where you can cross the Brook twice using the two stream crossings from Brook Road Fall Brook then winds through the Cheverus Athletic Facility off Washington Avenue. If you take the Canco Woods alternate trailhead from Rosedale Street, you’ll cross Fall Brook. The last stop to view Fall Brook is as it enters Back Cove from Baxter Boulevard and Back Cove Trail.

This Brook provides several areas to find unique stormwater infrastructure and shallow streams. Fall Brook is a great area to search for native turtle species, salamanders, and maybe some young Trout!
