Do you know where your drinking water comes from?

Ali and Chris from the District got a tour of the Portland Water District’s Sebago Lake Water Treatment Facility to see what happens to the water from Sebago Lake before it gets to our homes. They saw how the water is pumped into the facility, learned why ozone and UV lights are used, and saw where the final treatment occurs before the water goes out to over 16% of Maine’s population. Chris is pictured standing next to one of the four huge pumps that pump water from the lake into the treatment plant. Mike from the Portland Water District ended the tour in the water testing lab located just past the display cabinets that included old pipes made from wood. We can’t wait to share what we learned with you the next time we are in your classes.

We are so lucky to have Sebago Lake and great neighbors who help keep it clean!
