An Egg-cellent Day at the Fish Hatchery

Cumberland County Soil and Water Conservation District and Portland Water District educators met with Inland Fish and Wildlife biologists at the Casco Hatchery to learn more about how Brook Trout develop in the wild and how to recreate that environment in classrooms. In late January or early February, over 5,000 Brook Trout eggs will be delivered to classrooms around the region, with 600 eggs being raised in Lyman Moore Middle School classrooms. In the spring, Lyman Moore students will release Brook Trout fry into the Presumpscot River.

Join us on a virtual tour of the hatchery to learn more!
