Park(ing) Day
Did you know what happens when water lands on a hard surface, like a road, parking lot, or building? It has to runoff it until it finds a storm drain or a soft surface like a garden to soak into. Along the way, that water can pick up pollutants like litter, dog waste, car oil, road salt and sand, and others and carry it with it to the storm drain, where it flows untreated and unfiltered into the nearest body of water.
We talked with 24 people at Park(ing) Day on September 16 by the Exchange Street Post Office about how we can reduce and better use our hard surfaces so our stormwater has more opportunities to soak into the ground and encounter fewer pollutants.
Psst-Reducing hard surfaces on your property can also help reduce your stormwater bill.
